Leaping Poetry

Leaping Poetry
It is said that the ancient poets traveled on the tails of dragons between the worlds of the conscious and unconscious minds. When this leap occurred, it was enabled by a powerful feeling that sharpened the poets’ powers of association - in Spanish they say these artworks have “duende.” The flamenco dancer has this Earth knowledge. When the contra-alto allows the song to come up through her feet and out her mouth she is singing with duende. Lorca says that in these moments there is a heightened awareness of life’s imminence or temporal nature - lending the work or forms a special distinction.
